Forgive me--I can't figure out how to get rid of that big space gap, but it's bedtime, and I'm tired. Left to right: Me, my cousin Lin, my cousin Judi and Sis, earlier this year on Downing Street in Greenwich Village, where our Dads were born.
I've mentioned before that my big sister has taken me under her wing and broadened my horizons. My first plane trip. Museum of Natural History. Metropolitan Museum of Art. Opera in the Park. Theater in the Square. [Or was it Circle in the Square, or both? We'll never know in this space, b/c although Sis reads my blog, she has a policy about not posting comments. Too public.] Broadway. Off-Broadway. High tea. Restaurants of every kind. I'm pretty cultured in my own right now, but where would I be if Sis had not opened the door?
Tonight, she took me and her husband, Don, to Symphony Space, Broadway @ 95th Street, for "Voices in Unity...Celebrating." Our friend Marilyn Mills was singing in the choir. It was really nice. My favorites were the spirited deliveries of Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" and then "Bridge Over Troubled Water" with an older gentleman of color pouring his heart and soul into it and a gospel choir backup. I love that song but never heard it like that before. I never heard the words quite the same way.
When you're down and out
When you're on the street
When evening falls so hard
I will comfort you
I'll take your part
When darkness comes
And pain is all around
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Signing off forever thankful for my sister. Good night.
TCOY
- Boot camp in the church gym--the rain kept us out of the park. Arin was a great substitute all last week, but now Patsy is back from her vacation in Florida--with her pink shirt, her ponytail, her boxing gloves and her encouragement.
- Walked Fluff around the block once.
- Started reading The Hunger Games for our book group. I know I'm years behind the crowd, including H. and Figgy, but it is SO good.
- Reached out for support. Even though I didn't make the connection, I think just reaching out helped.
- Dinner and Irish coffee with Sis and Don at Cleopatra's Needle [I love that name], right near Symphony Space.
- Listening to that spiritual music in NYC.
Sounds great... so glad you get to enjoy culture with Sis.
ReplyDeleteI have printed out H.'s article and I concentrate on reading it whenever I get a little quiet time. Really interesting. Is this the piece that he was working on the day we went up to NYC and that photo (above) was taken?
Love, Lin
Hi Lin.....thanks for the note. Yes, that is the piece he would have been working on when you visited that day.....i will give you a call sometime soon. love, alice xoxoxo
