Weeds

Stylish pink dahlia from flowersgallery.net.
I now love to weed. I used to dread it. It seemed overwhelming and depressing, and I asked H. to do it all--to remove the dead, dried and brittle shoots, the yellowed stems and blackened fronds. And I would be grateful, because then our flowers would look so much prettier. Their shapes and colors would stand out: the fat pale-blue hydrangea ball; the salmon-colored rose unfolding; the spidery, sunny dahlia.

But now I like to be in the weeds. To remove the dead to show off the living. My hot pink dahlia looks so gorgeous right now without all of that crumpled-up foliage from other plants trying to choke its roots. Every day around lunchtime, I spy a big fat bumblebee on its petals. Now the bee will have a fresher, clearer landing pad.

I spent an hour weeding today, and I liked it.

Good night.

TCOY
  1. Boot camp in the park.
  2. Walked Sug around block once.
  3. Read.
  4. Met my friend Barbara for dinner: Walnut Street Salad [yum] and an excellent decaf latte [made with Ghost Town coffee] @ Le Salbuen Cafe Market, the little French place on Walnut Street in Montclair. Yes, I ordered salad for dinner and yes, it was delicious!!!!! With avocado, sliced egg, figs and a slim cut of chewy peasant bread slathered with goat cheese.
  5. Talked to my cousin Lin and to Sis.
  6. Washed my skirts so can be well-dressed to work @ home tomorrow. That feels good.
