A Toast at the Highlawn

Back to the Highlawn Pavilion in Eagle Rock Reservation tonight....to celebrate Anne's and Elly's recent birthdays. We sat at the bar, nibbled on salad, antipasto, steak sandwich, sipped Ruby Slippers and Riesling, shared a flight of tiny chocolate desserts and a fudge sundae, each with a white birthday candle and a chocolate HAPPY BIRTHDAY medallion. Rounding out the meal: Goblets of ice water with lemon and cups of hot coffee with sugar cubes and rock candy stirrers.

We could see NYC from our bar stools, and the two women next to us joined the waiter in the birthday song serenade.

Good night. Here's to happy memories.
