I love Punch, but on the 6-hour drive home tonight, she seemed like a one-woman wrecking ball. The back seat was a mess. I couldn't let her keep drinks in the cup holder back there because they'd end up all over the floor and seats--along with stencils, pencils, the first aid kit we keep in the back seat pocket, straws, her stuffed puppy and her baby doll, Rosetta. The seat belts were getting twisted, she had to pee or was hungry every hour, and she again asked me 100 times how long it would be till we got there and--again and again--what states we were driving through [Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey]. She finally dozed off lightly 5.5 hours into the drive, when Jonathan Schwartz played Frank Sinatra on the radio.
We had fun before that--except when she had a bathroom accident in the hotel pool. Trust me, it was too gross to subject you to here. I sheepishly told the front desk at checkout. I felt/feel terrible because kids attending a big school hockey conference are staying at the hotel this weekend, and last night I heard them all in the pool horsing around. I hope maintenance could put a chemical in the pool but not close it for a full day. I was tempted to skulk out without reporting it--we cleaned it up pretty well but H. urged me, from New Jersey, to come clean. Gosh. Still feel bad.
Beyond that, photos taken in the afternoon:

Coast Guard Beach, where we saw lots of seals again--their friendly heads bobbing above the waves. I look old, and people didn't know whether to call me her mom or her grandmother. Oh well. I'm not that old. And I figure if Punch is all about calling me Mommy, then I must not look grandmother-old and/or crepey in her eyes. |

The path to Coast Guard Beach. On the drive there, we saw a flock of six huge wild turkeys. |

Walking the short trail to my favorite spot, the bridge behind Coast Guard Beach. We looked down and saw crabs moving in the water. |

Sweeping beauty. |

Happened upon The Sea Chest [love that name] on Route 6 East in North Eastham. It used to be over near Sam's Deli. I bought a great brightly painted chair [not shown, already in my trunk] for $18 and a hardcover copy of the Nancy Drew mystery The Secret of the Wooden Lady by Carolyn Keene [copyright 1967] for $3. |
Well, now that I'm finally home, good night. I got my fill of pretty pond views to last a few months, I hope. Also went to my Hot Chocolate Sparrow and got an excellent hot Mocha Sparrow for the road.

- I would say swam in heated pool, but--no. Was short and didn't end well.
- Breathed in Cape air. Walked on sand.
- Saw Rite and Bob for second day in a row at their house on Quail Cover Lane, as we did a shopping errand for them yesterday and delivered the goods today. Enjoy seeing them.
- Good skin care and tooth care.
- Had some yogurt and a small red apple.
I like to think of you on Cape Cpd. There are places I go to get centered, too. And how delightful to share it with your Punch, even if too much togetherness wear thin after a while.
