I was wrong, and I like to be honest. It IS possible to overeat on gingersnaps. These from the Alice Waters recipe have such a delectable note of butter--though they are not soft, like most butter-dense cookies.
You better watch out. They could break your teeth, Dad said from the nursing home bed today.
But even he went for seconds. Gingersnaps are supposed to be hard. I think I'm drawn to either soft or hard things to smooth life's way. Soft like melted cheese, hard like gingersnaps and pretzels. As though something soft will transform or bury the rough parts and something hard will reassure me that I can tackle them, that I am not powerless in the face of tough stuff.
On to dinner making.
